Situated in Sydney’s agricultural north west, Golden Vale Belted Galloway Stud is committed to breeding quality, healthy animals for hobby farmers, show purposes and future breeding stock. We have a variety of miniature and standard Belted Galloways of outstanding type and structure. THE BREED Belted Galloways derive their name from the hill country of Galloway in south west Scotland, where it is believed they were developed by cross-breeding original Galloways with the Dutch Lakenvelder. For sheer beauty, few breeds are as distinctive in the paddock. They boast a “double coat” of hair, consisting of a long shaggy overcoat and a softer undercoat which provides excellent insulation in cold weather. This double coat means heat loss is reduced, bringing winter feed costs down significantly. A remarkably hardy breed, the Belted Galloway will thrive under hot and cold conditions and are drought tolerant. The coat is shed in hot weather, making the Beltie suitable for a range of Australian regions. Evolved in a harsh environment, they are also highly disease resistant and have superior foraging ability. On recent tests in Germany, Belties consumed more variety of flora than any other species. |
